He also sent a meme-worthy photo. Have fun with it?
Giorgio Mammoliti’s press releases are a joy to open. The colourful councillor will say and do anything for attention, whether it’s acting like a raccoon, capitalizing on Rob Ford’s death, or going shirtless at city hall to protest a nude beach.
The press release he sent Monday at 3:06 p.m. was simple enough, even if it was filled with Mammolitiesque hyperbole. The veteran councillor wrote to oppose in the strongest terms a stormwater charge proposed by city staff, which is a revenue neutral change to the water bill meant to provide incentives to achieve stormwater diversion targets. (In an extended digression, he also opposes garbage fees and says that he was always against them, even though he voted for the original plan in June 2007.)
This is an issue that deserves far more depth than Mammoliti’s press release, so Torontoist contributor Neville Park and I annotated it below with substantive policy information. You can add additional annotations to use the power of crowdsourcing for good.
But Mammoliti’s office must have realized his dense policy analysis lacked pizzazz. And so at 4:47 p.m. he sent the photo above, complete with a meme-worthy photo.
Volunteering to be a meme a la Scumbag Steve is quite the sacrifice. After all, the councillor must know what Denzil Minnan-Wong (Ward 34, Don Valley East) went through when he tried his bathroom publicity stunt. And the photo that Mammoliti offers above is just begging to be Photoshopped, or to become a ready-made macro for bad municipal policies. It is awfully generous of him to provide this gift to the hivemind, where you can also add additional annotations, even if they’re of a different kind.
